Sky City Command - JamGame
June 2022 libGDX 7 Day Game Jam Entry
Theme: Floating Cities
I wanted to take a shot at making all of the art assets myself. So I decided to keep the game super simple... so I just made a simplified missile command knockoff. :-P
Story:
The year is is 2786.
Human's have finally mastered high-tech ballooning technology. In doing so, we as a species have taken to the sky! But some less fortunate folks have been left behind... The "grounded" as they are called, have become jealous of our glorious floating paradise. So they send waves of missile's towards us in hopes of our destruction.
This is where you come in...
Gameplay:
You have 6 cities to defend and 3 turrets to use. Turrets can also be destroyed and don't come back.
Each turret contains 10 counter measures. Which refill at the beginning of each stage.
10 Stages in total, increasing in difficulty/incoming missile speed, etc.
Turrets are controlled individually, when the launch key is pressed for the associated turret, it will launch a counter measure towards where your mouse cursor is pointing.
Once the counter measure reaches its destination, it will explode. The idea is to time your counter measure to intercept the incoming missiles.
You are given a score at the end of each stage based on how many missile's you destroy, countermeasure's you DONT use and cities you have left.
Once you lose all 6 cities, the game will end.
Default: (you can change this from main menu controls)
Aim with mouse
A - Launch From Left Turret
S - Launch From Center Turret
D - Launch From Right Turret
Assets Used:
All of the hideous pixel art, is of my own doing.

Cool game! Great use of the theme! Missile launch sounds fit perfectly!
A very solid game all the way through! Good pressure on gameplay.
Excellent game play!
Pixel art is on point, good contrast and use of negative space.
This is my favourite jam submission! < 3
(Love the explosion dithering, not so much on the clouds)
Hah, Thank you! I can't take too much credit for the gameplay since, well... it's just missile command. :-P
I was basically on youtube watching pixel art tutorials and messing around in Aseprite for longer than I was coding. I went through like 5 different, much uglier cities before I was able to make it to where it was acceptable. Same with clouds. Though I still wasn't too happy with em.
Was fun to try, but next time, I'm going back to swiping the free stuff.
