June 2020 LibGDX 7 Day Game Jam Entry

Theme: Tower Defense without Towers!

Necro Defense

*Updated 7/24/2020

Did some refactoring and clean up of the code. Fixed up the gui a bit added some extra stuff that I originally planned to throw in there but didn't have time.

2 more units, more sounds, health bars, pause screen with info. working sound volume options menu.

------

Be warned, this game was a race to the finish. There is probably tons of balance issues. But the game is beatable, I promise that! Enjoy!

Use the Power of Necromancy to stop the advancing enemy units.
Try to survive the increasingly fast spawn rate!

Instructions:

You have 3 Columns which generate Energy. Every 2 seconds.
Use this energy to cast any of your 5 summoning spells.
Note: You can only cast spells on the Current Lane which you Occupy!

Controls:

Switch between skills using the A and D keys, OR Left and Right arrow Keys.
Cast currently toggled spells with the SPACE key OR Right Mouse Button.
When you summon, it will appear Where your mouse is located, on the lane you occupy.
Move between Lanes with the W and S, OR  Up and Down Keys.

Press escape to show the pause screen which contains Stat information about your units.

Some Tips for those having difficulty finishing:

Focus on building up skeleton archers on your lanes for the first 6 waves. Along with placing multiple grave stones to use as blocking points to halt future enemy advancement.

Skeleton archers stay in place so they will survive till the end of the game as long as they are not destroyed.

Once you get to waves 8,9,10, you should be in a position to spend all energy from this point forward on skeleton mages distributed throughout the lanes. These deal heavy damage and should be able to hold back the advancing spawned units long enough for you to survive with all columns intact. :-D

The cheap skeletons can be used as a low cost stalling technique to stop enemy's in their tracks.

Behind the Scenes:

First game made using the LibGDX Ashley ECS. That was my goal for this project. Having started researching in a few weeks earlier. The Result.... a spaghetti code monstrosity!

Nice game, great atmosphere

(1 edit)

What a fun game and creative way to interpret the theme! I love that you have to be strategic. The graphics are superb. I enjoyed this one a lot.

Thanks! Honestly, I was really worried when the theme was announed. Until I remember... Hey Plants vs. Zombie was a TD and there were no towers. Bingo

Crazy good graphics and artistic design. The music is also very good. Atmosphere and the character design everything is awesome. I really love to see this as an extended version on big game markets. You have something seriously amazing here.. Respect and best wishes...

Thanks for the kind words. Means a lot. Though I take no responsibility for the art. Other than finding 3 different asset packs that kinda fit and mashed 'em together :-P

i tell you honestly. this has a great atmosphere ! will be played even long after the jam forever.

Difficult but nice!

I'm a huge fan of the art, reminds me of Kingdom: New Lands and looks like a professional work, I guess it is 0_o

The fact that it is a very lengthy and rewarding experiencie that feeds my interior strategist with such suculent dish is even more impressive given the fact it was done in such a short period of time. Thanks for making it great job :3

Thanks! Def means a lot! This was a complete race to the finish to get this all done in time. If you saw the mess of spaghetti code towards the end, you would be frightened.

Nice :D
